What Is an
HVLS Fan?
High Volume Low Speed fans are a class of large-diameter ceiling fans that prioritize air mass flow over rotational speed — making them fundamentally different from conventional commercial fans.
High Volume
A single 7.3m Pulsar II moves over 30,000 m³/hr of air — equivalent to dozens of conventional fans running simultaneously. The large blade diameter naturally captures and displaces enormous air volumes each revolution.
Low Speed
Pulsar II fans rotate at just 50–80 RPM — far below the 300–1000+ RPM of conventional fans. This slow, smooth rotation produces a gentle, naturally-feeling breeze rather than harsh, disruptive drafts.
Wide Coverage
The Venturi effect created by HVLS blades pulls air horizontally across the floor and up the walls, creating a full-room circulation column. One fan covers what would require 15–30 conventional fans to achieve.

PMSM Direct Drive Motor
The Pulsar II uses a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) with direct-drive transmission — eliminating gearboxes, belts, and intermediate shafts. This means zero wear components, near-zero maintenance, and peak efficiency at all speed ranges. The motor is integrated into the hub assembly, minimizing weight distribution asymmetry.
Aerodynamics
Aerofoil-Profile Blades
Each blade is profiled with a NACA-standard aerofoil cross-section — the same engineering basis used in aircraft wings. This maximizes the lift-to-drag ratio at low RPM, converting motor torque into airflow more efficiently than flat or cambered blades used in conventional fans.
Control System
Variable Frequency Drive (VFD)
All Pulsar II models include a VFD controller allowing infinite speed adjustment from 0 to maximum RPM. The VFD enables soft-start (preventing electrical surge), progressive acceleration profiling, and integration with BMS (Building Management Systems), SCADA platforms, and IoT occupancy sensors for automated speed control.
