Coverage Planning Formula
Use this guideline to estimate how many HERO-5 V300i units your facility needs:
Number of Fans = Total Floor Area (sq ft) ÷ Effective Coverage per Fan (sq ft)
Note: Overlap coverage by 15–20% in high-obstruction environments (racking, equipment, mezzanines).
04 — Energy Efficiency
Energy Savings: HERO-5 V300i vs. Conventional Cooling
The economic case for industrial HVLS fans hinges on one number: energy cost per unit of cooling delivered. The V300i's direct-drive DC motor and intelligent control deliver unmatched efficiency at scale.
40Average energy cost reduction in cooling season when facilities raise thermostat setpoints by 4–6°F and deploy HERO-5 V300i fans — based on 47 documented commercial installation audits (2023–2025). Additional 10–30% heating savings in winter reverse-mode operation.

06 — Installation Guide
HERO-5 V300i Installation Overview
Installation requires a licensed electrician and a certified structural engineer sign-off on mounting point load capacity. Average installation time per fan: 4–6 hours with a two-person crew.
Structural Assessment & Layout Planning
Verify that the mounting beam or purlin can support a minimum of 3× the fan assembly weight (including safety cable load path). Mark fan centers on the floor plan using the V300i Coverage Calculator, maintaining minimum 1.5× blade diameter clearance from walls and obstructions.
Required: structural engineer letter confirming mounting point load capacity ≥ 3× fan weight before ordering.
Electrical Rough-In
Run dedicated 3-phase branch circuit to each mounting location. The V300i controller requires a separate 120V/240V single-phase supply for the control electronics. Conduit must be accessible for V300i communication wiring (CAT6 for BACnet/IP or RS-485 for Modbus).
Wire gauge: 10 AWG minimum for 20 ft and 24 ft units on 240V supply. Confirm NEC/local code compliance.
Mounting Bracket & Drop Rod Assembly
Install the beam clamp or fixed mounting plate per the HERO-5 V300i mounting hardware guide. Thread the drop rod through the assembly and torque all fasteners to spec (see torque chart in installation manual, Table 3-A). Attach safety cable to secondary anchor point — independent of primary mounting.
Motor Head & Blade Attachment
Lift motor assembly onto drop rod using lift equipment rated for 2× assembly weight. Secure motor housing and attach blade arms in sequence (opposing pairs) to balance load during assembly. Torque blade root bolts to 85 ft-lb and install locking inserts. Final blade tip-to-tip span must measure within ±0.25 inches of nominal diameter.
V300i Controller Commissioning
Power up V300i controller, run auto-configuration wizard via the touchscreen panel. Set facility parameters (ceiling height, space type, occupancy schedule). Commission BAS integration if applicable — use the V300i BACnet/IP or Modbus configuration guide. Run a 30-minute full-speed break-in test and verify vibration readings are within ≤ 2.0 mm/s RMS spec.
Download the HERO-5 V300i App to register the unit warranty and enable remote monitoring during commissioning.
Final Inspection & Handover
Complete the V300i Installation Checklist (provided in the documentation kit). Conduct owner/operator training on manual control, scheduling, and safety shutdown procedures. Submit commissioning report to retain warranty coverage. Schedule first preventive maintenance inspection at 12 months or 8,000 operating hours.
HERO-5 V300i: Common Questions Answered
The HERO-5 V300i is designed for ceilings between 14 ft (4.2 m) and 40 ft (12.2 m). A minimum mounting clearance of 10 ft above the occupied floor level is required for safe airflow distribution and personnel safety. For ceilings below 20 ft, the 16 ft or 20 ft diameter configuration is recommended to maintain proper tip clearance from walls. Contact our engineering team for low-clearance custom mounting solutions.
The HERO-5 V300i operates at 1.5–2.2 kW at full speed, compared to a comparable rooftop HVAC unit drawing 15–20 kW for equivalent coverage area. In moderate climates, facilities consistently report 30–45% reduction in overall cooling costs when HVLS fans are deployed alongside a raised thermostat setpoint of 4–6°F. The V300i intelligent controller further reduces consumption by automatically stepping down fan speed during low-occupancy periods.
Blade diameter selection depends on three factors: ceiling height, floor area to cover, and space obstructions. As a general rule: for ceilings 14–20 ft use the 16 ft model; for 20–30 ft ceilings use the 20 ft model; for 30+ ft ceilings or large open areas use the 24 ft model. Our V300i Coverage Calculator (available on the product page) generates a customized layout based on your facility dimensions and ceiling height. Contact our applications engineering team for complex layouts with racking or mezzanines.
Yes. The V300i controller natively supports BACnet/IP, Modbus RTU over RS-485, Modbus TCP over Ethernet, and 0–10V analog input for speed control. This covers virtually all modern building automation systems (BAS), energy management systems (EMS), and SCADA platforms. BACnet and Modbus device files (EDE files and register maps) are available for download in the technical documentation section. For legacy systems requiring dry-contact or 4–20mA control, an optional I/O adapter module is available.
Because the V300i uses a direct-drive motor (no gearbox), there is no oil or lubricant to change. Recommended maintenance includes: annual inspection of blade root fasteners and safety cable integrity (torque verification); blade surface cleaning every 6–12 months (dust accumulation reduces efficiency); V300i controller firmware update via the mobile app; and vibration sensor reading review via the app (abnormal vibration may indicate blade damage). Full maintenance interval is 8,000 operating hours — approximately 2–3 years in continuous-duty applications.
The HERO-5 V300i carries a 3-year limited warranty on the motor and structural components, and a 2-year warranty on the V300i electronic controller and associated sensors. Warranty is valid only for installations performed by a HERO-5 Certified Installer and registered within 30 days of commissioning via the mobile app or product registration portal. Extended warranty coverage up to 10 years is available through our authorized service partner network.
