01 Project Background
The Cathedral & the Ventilation Challenge

" Long Xuyen Cathedral, the mother church of the Diocese of Long Xuyen, is one of the Mekong Delta’s largest religious buildings, featuring soaring ceilings and a vast worship space that accommodates thousands of congregants during major celebrations. "
Seeking a solution that would preserve the cathedral’s architecture and peaceful atmosphere, the Diocese partnered with Hamilton Air. Following a detailed site assessment, Hamilton Air recommended the Powersky X6 7.3m HVLS ceiling fan from Aeropower Taiwan, delivering quiet, energy-efficient airflow throughout the space.

POWERSKY X6 Airflow Airflow Principle
Large Blade, Low RPM
At 7.3m diameter rotating at ~50–100 RPM, each X6 moves up to 15,600 m³ of air per minute — equivalent to filling a standard swimming pool every 90 seconds.
Evaporative Cooling Effect
Accelerating airflow across skin increases sweat evaporation, creating a perceived temperature reduction of 4–6°C without any change in actual ambient temperature.
Destratification
The downward column of air breaks trapped heat layers near the roof and redistributes them, equalising temperatures from floor to ceiling throughout the space.
02 Project Challenges
Four Non-Negotiable Engineering Constraints
Exceptional Ceiling Height
The cathedral’s exceptionally high ceiling required detailed structural assessment, reinforced mounting systems, and strict safety certification before installation.
Silent Operation During Mass
Maintaining a quiet worship environment was critical, requiring fan operation with virtually no noticeable mechanical or aerodynamic noise.
Architectural Harmony
Any equipment installed had to respect the cathedral’s architectural beauty, blending naturally with the interior without becoming visually intrusive.
Uniform Coverage for All Worshippers
The large worship space demanded careful fan positioning to ensure consistent airflow throughout the nave, providing comfort for every congregant.
03 The Solution
Why Powersky X6 7.3m Was the Right Answer
Near-Zero Noise Operation
The gearless BLDC motor keeps noise below 45 dB, ensuring quiet operation with no disruption to worship services.
7.3m Span — Built for High Ceilings
The 7.3m X6 delivers airflow across up to 400 m² per unit. Four fans provide complete, overlapping coverage throughout the cathedral.
Smart Centralized Control
The Touch AP controller enables simultaneous management of all fans from a single panel, simplifying operation and optimizing comfort.
75% Lower Energy Consumption
Each fan consumes only 1.03 kW, allowing the cathedral to achieve significant energy savings compared to conventional HVAC systems.
04 Installation Process
How We Executed Without Disrupting a Single Mass
Understanding that a cathedral operates on an uninterrupted liturgical calendar, Hamilton Air's site team coordinated all work around service schedules — every drill, lift, and cable run planned around the hours when the sacred space was at rest.
1
Structural Assessment
Engineers inspected and certified all mounting locations, completing any required structural reinforcement before installation.
2
Mounting & Suspension Installation
Custom brackets and drop rods were installed to position each fan at the optimal height for maximum airflow coverage.
3
Fan Assembly & Electrical Integration
The BLDC motors, controllers, and blades were installed, balanced, and tested to ensure smooth, vibration-free operation.
4
Testing & Commissioning
Airflow, noise levels, and system performance were verified before staff training and final project handover.
